Announcing the release of Curating Engagement
I’m excited to be part of the thoughtful and idea-packed volume, Curating Engagement, edited by Aaron Levy, Abigail Satinsky and Daniel Tucker, and published by Public Trust and Wagner Foundation. Best of all, the full book is downloadable for free at the Public Trust website.
My contribution, the essay Curatorial Practice in Academic Medicine, discusses some of the artist-driven projects I have directed at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia since 2016. The book began as a multi-day retreat at Public Trust during June 2025. The print volume followed in Spring 2026 with a book launch at EXPO Chicago hosted by Independent Curators International.

Curating Engagement brings together the voices of over 50 curators, educators, and artists working at the intersection of public engagement and curatorial practice to discuss the urgent issues facing their work. This book contains their reflections, questions, and proposals for building exchange and mutual support around these issues within the curatorial field, and offers a new paradigm for understanding institutions as civic spaces.
