Claiming the Body: John Killacky in Conversation with Megan Voeller

Last month, I had a wonderful time getting to know artist, advocate, and former legislator John Killacky for a public event at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia. The event celebrated John’s recent residency at FWM and his participation in the exhibition Soft/Cover.

During the event, we screened and discussed three of John’s video works spanning 1995 to 2025. Our conversation touched on topics including his activism during the AIDS crisis, disability and intimacy, and how the collaborative process at FWM shaped his new work, stillpoint (2024). Learn more about the event here and watch the video recording on YouTube.

Thanks to M. Christina Roberts, Director of Education at FWM, for organizing the program and bringing us together, and to Project Technician Allen West for joining us to discuss John’s residency.
